
Gil Carvalho
Born in Portugal, Gil Carvalho now lives and works in London, UK.
Originally trained in architecture, Gil shifted his focus to footwear design, studying at Cordwainers at the London College of Fashion. His fashion career launched at Vivienne Westwood’s studio in London after graduation, where he swiftly emerged as a standout among a new generation of shoe designers. In 2005, he debuted his eponymous label at London Fashion Week, earning acclaim in prestigious magazines like Vogue, Elle, and Vanity Fair. His designs adorned the feet of celebrities such as Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Fergie, Liz Hurley, and Lindsay Lohan, to name a few. Commissions soon followed from notable clients, including the Brunei Royal Family and luxury fashion conglomerate LVMH.
In 2013, Gil’s artwork was selected for an international exhibition at Galeries Lafayette in Paris, spotlighting emerging artists. Since then, he has featured in multiple group exhibitions and held his first solo show in July 2015 at the Westbank Gallery in London’s Notting Hill. Among his recent projects is a commissioned artwork for Gordon Ramsay’s latest venue at The Londoner Macao in Macau.
Gil’s deep-rooted connection to architecture has also shaped his distinctive approach to interior design, earning him an eight-page feature in a leading architectural publication, Architectural Digest. In 2020, he was commissioned to design the interior of a vessel, creating a versatile mobile living and working space. This project paved the way for additional bespoke interior design commissions, further showcasing his unique vision and style.
